Death online
last modified: Wednesday, June 03, 2009 (2:50:47 AM CST)
Last week, I learned an online friend of mine died. Another mutal friend and I have been chatting and bascially leaning on each other all week trying to understand the finer details because it all seemed so surreal. He was 18 years old.

But all of this got me wondering, do we all think about contacting our online friends in the event of our own deaths? No, I'm not talking about our ghosts coming to haunt people or anything. I was just wondering if anyone had made any plans to let others know.

Mostly what I've noticed is people just disappear. I just like to think they got busy or are uninterested in whatever because all of our tastes change over time. It's possible. I never want to jump to the conclusion that someone has actually died. In fact, last week I even asked, "Are you sure it's not someone just messing with you saying he died?"

For myself, I'm sure everyone in the cel community would find out eventually. Obviously, some would know sooner than others but the word would spread. A couple of years ago, I came up with a plan.

I have designated someone to act as my seller. After my family and close friends have gone through my belongings and taken what they want or what I have willed to them (yes, some people have pieces willed to them), then this designated person is supposed to sell off the remainder of my collection. All the money would go to my family to help care for my dog or whatever. A small portion would also go to the designated person as a thanks for working through the trying time. (The actual details of who, how, etc. are extremely private and only between my family and said person. Don't want anyone trying to kill me off. ^.~)

All that being said, I have zero plans on dying anytime soon. I plan to live to be 101. God help the person or disease that tries to stop me. ^.^
